The Father William O’Bryne Council 3574 in Jacksonville, NC received its charter from the Supreme Council on December 17, 1952. The Charter Grand Knight was Michael O’Brien. Other charter officers were: Chaplain - Father Ambrose F. Rohrbacher When the council was first formed it held its meetings at Infant of Prague Church in Jacksonville. Later other venues were utilized; however, today the council holds its meetings in the IOP Parish Hall. Father William O’Bryne Council became a council under very trying circumstances. The State Deputy at the time discouraged the potential members from forming a council. This was due to the fact that the members were transitory in nature. The members persevered and became a council and were able to build their membership to about 300 members during the war years. This council supported the first black seminarian in North Carolina. |
